Tribe Academy comes to Pontiac
There’s a new youth basketball program in Pontiac.
The Tribe Academy team partnered with the Upward Sports ministry with the help of the First Baptist Church of Pontiac. Those involved are Kindergarten through fourth grade and a part of the Indian Tribe. The program is built on teaching youth more fundamentals and sportsmanship through the church ministry.
While we are three weeks into the basketball program, growth is already being seen in the kids. Practices are every Thursday with games all day Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. This program has been community driven from the beginning and most games have been reffed by Pontiac Township High School basketball players.
PTHS also allowed the group to make Tribe Academy shirts for all of the program participants, allowing them to get into games for free and cheer on the Pontiac Indians.
Tribe Academy includes 122 kids this year and organizers look forward to what the future holds for the program and the future Pontiac Indians.
