Pontiac armed robbery probed
PONTIAC – An armed robbery which occurred at Trainor BP in Pontiac is under investigation.
An employee of the gas station on west Howard Street reported the robbery Wednesday and was able to provide a description of the masked assailant, according to police, advising he displayed a handgun before demanding money and forcing the employee to lay on the ground.
The suspect fled after obtaining bash. An investigation revealed a Honda Accord was involved in the robbery and the vehicle had been reported stolen from Aurora on Jan. 14.
The car was observed traveling at a high rate of speed in Grundy County and continued through Dwight and northeastern Livingston County before crashing on the west side of Kankakee. Police say the driver was Jarvis L. Postlewaite of Aurora, who attempted to flee on foot before being taken into custody. Items recovered from the vehicle included cash, a handgun and various narcotics.
Postlewaite was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital in Kankaee for medical treatment. A news release from Pontiac Police said this is an ongoing investigation with further information regarding criminal charges forthcoming.
Agencies assisting Pontiac Police included: Dwight Police, Sheriff’s Departments from Livingston, Grundy and Kankakee counties and Illinois State Police District 21.
