Plenty for local voters to decide

The General Election is this Tuesday, Nov. 5 and there is plenty on the ballot for Livingston County voters in addition to the presidential race.

In Livingston County, Michael Regnier, Jacquelyn Gragson and Michael Renner are all Republicans running unopposed for State’s Attorney, Circuit Clerk and Coroner, respectively.

There is a race in District One of the Livingston County Board which includes Pontiac. Four people are running for three spots including Republicans James Carley, Regina “Gina” Manker and Marty Fannin and Democrat Mary E. Comens.

In District Two, three are running for three spots including Republicans Gerald Earing, Steven Lovell and Michael Haag with no Democrats running.

District Three of the Livingston County Board, which includes Fairbury, has three running for three spots. This includes Republicans Rebekah Fehr, Craig W. Monson and Leroy Rodriguez with no Democrats running.

Lisa Holder White, a Republican, is running unopposed for judge of the fourth Judicial district of the Supreme Court to fill the vacancy of the Hon. Rita B. Garman.

For judge of the Appellate Court Fourth Judicial District, Gene Doherty, a Republican, is running unopposed to fill the vacancy of the Hon. Lisa Holder White.

Several questions ask if judges shall be retained, such as Robert Steigmann for the Appellate Court Fourth Judicial District, Rebecca Simmons Foley in the Eleventh Judicial Circuit and William A. Yoder in the Eleventh Judicial Circuit.

Other ballot questions deal with election worker protection and candidate accountability, property tax relief and fairness and assisted reproductive health.

Questions include:

“Should any candidate appearing on the Illinois ballot for federal, state or local office be subject to civil penalties if the candidate interferes or attempts to interfere with an election worker’s official duties?”

“Should the Illinois Constitution be amended to create an additional 3% tax on income greater than $1,000,000 for the purpose of dedicating funds raised to property tax relief?”

“Should all medically appropriate assisted reproductive treatments, including, but not limited to, in vitro fertilization, be covered by any health insurance plan in Illinois that provides coverage for pregnancy benefits, without limitation on the number of treatments?

Voters will decide on the next president and vice president along with Congressional races. In the second Congressional District, Republican Ashley Ramos is running against Democrat Robin Kelly. In the 16th Congressional District, Republican Darin LaHood is running unopposed.

At the state level, Chris Balkema, a Republican, is running unopposed in the 53rd State Legislative District while Republican Regan Deering is running unopposed in the 88th Representative District. In the 105th Representative District, Dennis Tipsword Jr., a Republican, is running against Democrat Morgan Phillips. Republican Jason R. Bunting is running unopposed in the 106th Representative District.

Those in the Prairie Central School District will consider a proposition Tuesday to issue $45,000,000 in school building bonds to build and equip a new elementary school building.
