Oct. is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, as breast cancer is the second leading cause of death in this country.
It is one of the most commonly diagnosed cancers in women and increases with age. Around 83 percent of breast cancer cases each year are among women ages 50 and older.
Experts encourage women to schedule mammograms and routine check-ups as early detection is crucial.
As part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Illinois Senate Deputy Minority Leader Sue Rezin urges women across Illinois to prioritize their health by scheduling screenings.
“Breast cancer affects millions of women and early detection is key to saving lives,” said Senator Rezin. “Gettings screened regularly can make a lifesaving difference.”
