Longtime business owner remembered
The owner of a longtime Pontiac business is being remembered after passing away over the weekend following a four-month battle with cancer.
Perry Klopfenstein, Sr., 86, died peacefully at home early Saturday. He and his wife, Carol, purchased the former Widmer Office Supply in Pontiac back in 1977 and later named it Klopfenstein Office Products.
Klopfenstein graduated from Gridley schools and Illinois State University, serving two years in the U.S. Army. He began working at Klopfenstein Grain Company in Gridley back in 1964 and then began working for large grain firms for several years.
An avid reader, Klopfenstein served on the Gridley Library Board for 30 years – serving as president for 25 of those years. He wrote a national history of the Apostolic Christian Church of America with a second edition published in 2007. Klopfenstein also wrote a history of Gridley, a family history and an autobiography.
Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday (Jan. 8) at 10 a.m. at the Gridley Apostolic Christian Church with visitation Tuesday (Jan. 7) from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Gridley Apostolic Christian Fellowship Hall and also from 9 to 9:45 a.m. at
the church Wednesday prior to the service.
Memorials may be left to Apostolic Christian LifePoints in Morton or Fairview Haven in Fairbury.
