Lanes reopen where possible for weekend
Travel disruption will be minimized on many roads this holiday weekend as the Illinois Department of Transportation has announced that lanes which have been closed for construction will reopen where possible.
Non-emergency closures are suspended through 11:59 p.m. Sunday.
Some lane closures will remain in place throughout the week so motorists can expect some delays and are advised to allow extra time for trips in these areas. Drivers should pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in work zones, obey posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and stay alert for any workers or equipment.
At all times, authorities say to buckle up and drive sober.
Locally, lane reductions continue on U.S. 24 east of Chenoa in McLean County and traffic is controlled by temporary lights. Also, lane reductions continue on Illinois 9 east of Interstates 55 and 74 in Bloomington.
