Homicide suspect captured, convicted
BLOOMINGTON – A McLean County homicide suspect has been captured in Lexington, Kentucky.
Earlier in the week, Michael Bakana, 44, of Bloomington was reported as being wanted on multiple McLean County warrants stemming from a homicide which reportedly occurred in Bloomington in January 2021. Police say Bakana cut off his court-ordered GPS ankle bracelet and fled the area.
Bloomington Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division has been working with the U.S. Marshals Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force over the past several days.
Bakana was tried in McLean County Court this week for the homicide and shooting case and was found guilty of all charges connected to the shooting death of a woman as well as the attempted murder of another.
