Holiday traffic enforcement summary

Bloomington Police teamed up with the Illinois Department of Transportation and law enforcement from around the state for the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign from Dec. 13 through Jan. 2.

This resulted in a safer holiday season with officers issuing two citations for improper child restraints, 20 speeding citations, two citations for distracted driving and 20 citations for other categories. One arrest was made for possession of methamphetamine.

During the campaign, Bloomington Police intensified its enforcement efforts and deployed additional patrol units to deter risky behaviors and catch offenders.

The enforcement initiative, administered by IDOT and funded by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, underscores the collective commitment to safer roadways, particularly during high-risk times like the holidays.

“I applaud our officers who worked extra hours to increase visibility, address bad driving behaviors through enforcement and improve traffic safety,” said Bloomington Chief Jamal Simington.
