Holiday enforcement results announced
Holiday enforcement campaign results have been released by the Bloomington Police Department.
BPD partnered with the Illinois Department of Transportation and other law enforcement agencies across the state for the holiday “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” impaired-driving enforcement campaign.
Between Dec. 15 and Jan. 2, Bloomington Police showed zero tolerance for impaired driving, arresting 13 offenders for the crime. There were 2 criminal arrests, 3 DUI arrests and 82 citations issued by officers working the campaign.
“Impaired driving is a danger to everyone,” said Bloomington Chief Jamal Simington. “We were fortunate to not suffer any fatalities on the city’s roadways this holiday season but significant property damage occurred and alcohol was a factor.”
According to Simington, the department is taking steps to increase safety of roadways as they aim for a five percent reduction in traffic crashes during 2024. The “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign is one step BPD has taken to address issues.
