Gettysburg Address on display in Springfield
An original handwritten edition of the Gettysburg Address is on display at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum in Springfield.
It was November 19, 1863 when President Lincoln delivered the address as he dedicated a national cemetery at the Civil War battlefield. Admission to the museum is free on this day.
The Gettysburg Address is one of the most famous speeches ever given. Its historical impact has been studied by everyone from scholars to schoolchildren.
The display in Springfield runs through November 24. Following this date, the document will be returned to the vault for preservation.
