Fatal Bloomington crash results in arrest
A Bloomington man was arrested following a fatal traffic crash Sunday evening in the area of Fox Creek Road and Beich Road.
Police say a sedan with two occupants was traveling west on Fox Creek Road and the vehicle collided with a sedan traveling east on the road. The single occupant of the eastbound vehicle suffered non-life threatening injuries while the driver of the eastbound sedan abandoned the vehicle and left the scene. The passenger, a 27-year-old female, was taken to the hospital where she was later pronounced dead.
The driver who left the scene, 25-year-old Michael C. Mitchell, of Bloomington, was arrested for reckless homicide, failure to report an accident involving death, failure to report an accident involving injury, driving on a revoked license, failure to give information or render aid in an accident involving injury or death, improper passing in a no passing zone and unlawful use of weapons/felon possess/use firearm prior.
Mitchell was taken to the McLean County Detention Facility and the incident is under investigation by the Bloomington Police Department, McLean County Accident Reconstruction Team and McLean County Coroner’s Office.
