Fair food a must in McLean County

A cornerstone of the McLean County Fair in Bloomington is the food they have on the grounds.

“We have the regular fair food like funnel cakes, corn dogs and lemon shake-ups, but we also have some folks who come out and just cook barbecue sandwiches,” explains fair manager Mike Swartz.

The food stand operated by the McLean County beef and pork producers is always a crowd favorite.

“The beef producers have added brisket sandwiches and they are wonderful,” said Swartz. “In fact, that’s my go-to now instead of the seasoned ribeye.”

Food vendors can be spotted up and down the midway. Swartz feels the food is a piece to bring people into the fair while they try to avoid duplicating food offerings as much as possible.

“I’ve got two corn dog vendors and three or four places that serve lemon shake-ups but those are often additional items to their menu,” notes Swartz.

The McLean County Fair runs through this Sunday (July 28) at the Interstate Center in Bloomington.
