Ex-Fairbury cop sentenced

A former Fairbury Police officer was sentenced to prison for criminal sexual assault.

State Police were notified of an allegation against Carter Meister on Oct. 2 when he was a Fairbury officer at the time. After ISP agents gathered evidence, an arrest warrant was issued and he was taken into custody and charged with four counts of criminal sexual assault, which is a class one felony.

Meister was sentenced to four years in the Illinois Department of Corrections last week, which will be followed by mandatory supervised release. He will be required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life and 85 percent of the sentence must be served.
