Distracted driving results announced

The Bloomington Police Department announced it issued 63 citations for hands-free law violations during April’s Distracted Driving Awareness Month enforcement campaign.

A total of four arrests were made and 129 citations were issued during this campaign.

“The Bloomington Police Department has listened to our community, which has demanded we give more attention to dangerous and distracted driving,” said Chief Jamal Simington. “I applaud the efforts of our dedicated officers who gave an extra effort to drive down crashes and hold distracted drivers accountable. Again, please do your part to help our community sustain lower crash rates.”

The Bloomington Police Department joined forces with the Illinois State Police, local law enforcement and highway safety partners for this enforcement effort. The Illinois distracted driving campaign was funded with federal traffic safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
