Crash still under investigation

The investigation continues into a fatal Logan County traffic crash which occurred last week on Interstate 55 at milepost 122.

State Police say a 2016 Chrysler Pacifica was traveling north when the driver lost control in heavy rain last Wednesday night. The vehicle skidded across the median and into oncoming southbound traffic. Meanwhile, a 2017 Freightliner truck-tractor semi trailer was traveling south at the same location, striking the Pacifica in the southbound lanes.

The Pacifica came to rest in the median while the semi crossed the median and the northbound lanes before overturning on a frontage road near the Interstate.

Four occupants of the vehicle were pronounced dead on scene while one passenger was taken to an area hospital with serious injuries. A passenger in the semi was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries while the semi driver refused medical attention.

The deceased include Seth W. Phillips, 47, along with one 16-year-old female and two 17-year-old males all from Washington, Illinois.
