Crash at after-school facility investigated

A fatal crash at an after-school camp in the town of Chatham is under investigation.

Officers responded to the YNOT After School Camp in Chatham around 3:20 p.m. Monday where a vehicle drove into the side of the building, striking multiple people both inside and outside before “continuing through the building,” according to Illinois State police.

As of Monday afternoon, authorities confirmed four fatalities believed to be between the ages of 4 and 18. Several additional victims have been transferred to area hospitals by ambulance and one by helicopter.

The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle was uninjured and taken to an area hospital for evaluation.

State Police say this is an active investigation.
