Dan Rutherford, Debi (Rutherford) & Fred Fornero invite the community to “Those Were the Days - Summer Celebration” on Saturday, June 21, in the alley off Plum Street, across from the Eagle Theater in Pontiac, Illinois.

At 4:30 p.m., the newest mural in Pontiac will be dedicated. Commissioned by the Rutherford family and designed by Diaz Sign Art, the 26-foot by 8-foot piece of public art will be located at the alley’s entrance.

From 3:00 to 5:00 p.m., a DJ will spin classic rock & roll, while guests enjoy hors d’oeuvres provided by Bob & Ringo’s Grill and Smokehouse.

The festivities honor Carol Rutherford, who will celebrate her 90th birthday on October 30, 2025.

Dan Rutherford shared, “The image in the mural will be instantly recognizable to those who remember Pontiac in the 1960s and 70s.”

Debi Fornero hinted, “Mom knows about the Summer Celebration—but the muralremains a surprise.”

Festivities continue from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., featuring Pontiac Cruise Night and A Taste of Pontiac downtown.
