Cakes bring a pretty penny

PONTIAC – Money collected from a cake auction at the Livingston County Fair Friday night will help fund future fair scholarships.

“We have a great bunch of supporters,” said fair board president Rick Tucker. “We had a dozen cupcakes tonight go for $340, we think that’s great.”

Tucker appreciates everything the fair volunteers and donors do because that is what makes the fair possible.

“We had a really good sale tonight with a couple up around $500,” explained auctioneer Billy Bolen, of Bolen Auction Service.

After doing the auction for about eight years, Bolen has seen pies bring a thousand dollars. All it takes is a couple of people competing for it, according to Bolen.

“I got scholarships when I was in 4-H so we are just trying to give back,” he added.

Bolen will be on hand for the Saturday livestock auction at 1 p.m. and the chainsaw auction prior to the Saturday evening demolition derby at 6:30 p.m.
