Berwyn man dies in wreck near Dwight

A man from Berwyn, Illinois has died after an accident on Route 66 in Livingston County near Dwight.

Shortly after 12:30 p.m. Wednesday (Jan. 1), dispatchers were notified of the accident just south of the intersection with 3100 North Road. Authorities say Fred W. Goers, 78, was driving a Honda Accord south on Route 66 and struck an Audi A4 in a head-on collision that caused extensive damage to both vehicles.

“The Audi left the roadway entering the ditch and Goers’ vehicle came to rest on the roadway,” said a statement released by Livingston County Coroner Michael E. Renner Friday morning.

Both the driver and passenger of the Audi were transported by Life Flight helicopter. An autopsy determined Goers died from blunt force injuries sustained in the accident which remains under investigation by Illinois State police and the Livingston County Coroner.

Assisting agencies included ISP Crime Scene, Livingston County Sheriff’s Police, Dwight Police and Dwight EMS/Fire.
