Ameren suspends disconnections

Service disconnections for residential customers have been suspended by Ameren Illinois it was announced last week.

The winter shut-off moratorium is being implemented early by the company due to the current and forecast low temperatures along with the recent increase in coronavirus cases.

Back in September, the company extended the moratorium on disconnections for customers eligible for assistance through the state’s low income program, those experiencing hardship caused by COVID-19 or anyone with adverse health conditions, including a household member recovering from COVID-19.

This disconnection moratorium is now extended to all residential customers through March 31. In order to avoid falling too far behind on energy bills, Ameren suggests customers experiencing financial difficulty take steps to save energy and continue to pay whatever they can afford at this point.
