Area recovers from stormy night

It was a stormy night across Central Illinois late Saturday as extreme winds brought down power lines and toppled trees in numerous towns.

Power outages were in the tens of thousands across the state after the system started in northwestern Illinois Saturday evening and moved southeastward. A tree fell on two pickup trucks in Fairbury while Chenoa also experience plenty of tree and power line damage along with Pontiac to the north. Also, many cornfields were impacted by the strong winds and were almost completely flat in a couple of spots.

A press release issued by the Pontiac Fire Department indicated tornado sirens sounded in the town although there was no confirmation of a tornado actually on the ground. Extreme storm damage was reported to the southwest of town.

There was no official word on injuries as of Sunday morning throughout the area.
