Obituary: Schopp


Marilyn M. Schopp, 86 of Chenoa, died at 2:42 pm, Sunday, May 17, 2020 at her residence in Chenoa.

Private family graveside services will be held in Calvary Cemetery, rural Chenoa; with a Memorial Mass to be scheduled at a later date at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Chenoa. Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Chenoa is assisting the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Chenoa.

Mrs. Schopp was born May 29, 1933 in Geneseo, the daughter of Ambrose and Irene (Seei) Splear. She married John A. Schopp on June 9, 1956 in Pontiac. Her husband, John passed away March 26, 2015. Her parents, 1 brother and 1 sister also preceded her in death.

Survivors include her three sons, Michael (Sherry) Schopp of Chenoa; Stephen (Debbie) Schopp of Odell; Thomas Schopp of Chenoa; one daughter; Janice (Tim) Crawford of Bloomington; one sister, Carol Amorozo of Hawaii; nine grandchildren, J.J. Schopp, Andy Schopp, Kelsey (McKay) Wenger, Ashley and Lindsey Schopp, Katie, Joe, Mary Lynn and Anna Crawford, and two great-grandchildren, Paisley Stepro and Wyler Thomas Wenger.

Marilyn had a love for music, earning her degree in music and teaching elementary school music in Dwight, Gridley and Chenoa schools. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Chenoa.

She had a true servant’s heart; her love of Christ and her musical talents were used playing the organ and leading the church choir at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Chenoa and Epiphany Catholic Church in Normal for many years. Her quiet, selfless demeanor will be missed by her family and all who knew and loved her.
