Teacher arrested for sexual abuse
On 08/2/19, Detectives from the Normal Police Department arrested Johnathon W. Hovey, age 47, of Forsyth, Illinois.
Normal Police were contacted in April by McLean County Unit 5 Staff after a parent reported that the child’s teacher repeatedly touched a female student inappropriately. The incident was reported to have occurred on district property at Glenn Elementary School, 306 Glenn Avenue, in Normal, where Hovey was employed as a Teacher.
Normal Police also reopened a 2005 report where a 1st grade female student reported that she was touched by Hovey in an inappropriate manner. After additional investigation and interviews, Johnathon Hovey was charged with an additional count of Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse related to the 2005 incident.
This remains an ongoing investigation. Based on the allegations that the incidents happened in a school building, over a period of multiple years, Normal Police ask anyone who may have information concerning these investigations or believe they had inappropriate contact with Hovey to contact Detective Kendra DeRosa, (309) 454-9624, kderosa@normal.org.
Based on the age of the victims the Normal Police Department will not release additional information concerning this case. Hovey is currently being held at the McLean County Jail in lieu of $100,000, 10% cash bond on the following charges: Predatory Criminal Sexual Assault – Victim < 13 (2 Counts) Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse – Victim < 13 (4 Counts)
