Crews battle field fire

GRIDLEY – A field fire estimated to be 20-30 acres in size occurred Tuesday in McLean County.

The post from the Gridley Fire Department Facebook page said the blaze started in a grass waterway which was being burned off before getting out of control. Since the field was wet from recent rain, several hot spots were extinguished with brooms as firefighters walked through the field. Neighboring farmers brought tillage equipment to assist at the scene.

Chenoa and Lexington firefighters assisted the Gridley department.
