Beautiful weather ushers in fair

PONTIAC – It was a drastic change from years past for those attending opening day of the 2018 Livingston County Ag Fair in Pontiac Monday: the weather was pleasant.
Fair week typically brings with it heavy rain along with muggy weather, but things are looking good so far at 4-H Park. Pontiac VFW member Don Eskison assisted with Monday’s flag raising ceremony to officially kick off the fair.
“It’s a great honor to come out here every year,” Eskison said.
In addition to the fair duties, members of the Pontiac VFW are responsible for putting flags along the Mill Street bridge during special occasions and taking part in ceremonies for Memorial Day, Veteran’s Day and the Threshermen’s Reunion.
The Livingston County Ag Fair runs through Saturday and there are still plenty of entertainment options. Around 400 county 4-H members will participate in Thursday night’s ag Olympics. The beef show is Friday morning, demolition derby Friday night and the tractor pulls are planned for Saturday. This is the second year for the Wednesday-Saturday format.
“We’ve made a few modifications,” explained fair board member Roberta Maubach. “We had the rodeo on Friday last year and decided Wednesday was better for that. Last year, it was a very muddy event and tonight looks perfect for a rodeo.”
More information on this week’s fair can be found at livingstoncountyagfair.com, by calling the fair office at 4-H Park, or looking for posters throughout the area.
“Just reach out – we are happy to tell you what’s going on out here at the fairgrounds,” Maubach added.
