Felon arrested with gun in Bloomington
On Monday, July 9, 2018, officers were conducting community policing efforts in the area of Oakland Avenue and Evans Street, when they observed two subjects walking in the middle of the roadway.
Contact was made with both subjects and additional officers arrived to assist while the subjects were being issued citations.
One of the males began to make suspicious movements, including attempting to conceal his hands, even after multiple verbal commands from the officers. Officers attempted to gain control of the male and after a long struggle, the male was placed into custody. During the struggle a handgun fell onto the ground, from the male.
Bloomington Fire Rescue was called to the scene to evaluate the male for minor injuries. The male was then transported to a local hospital for treatment. The male was treated and transported to the McLean County Jail.
Jusstin A. Johnson, age 22, of Bloomington, was arrested for Unlawful use of Weapons by a Felon, Armed Habitual Criminal, and multiple counts of Resisting & Injuring Police Officers.
Four officers received minor to moderate injuries during the struggle and sought private medical treatment.
A Smith & Wesson 9mm handgun was seized as evidence. BPD would like to thank all the members of the police department for their continued commitment to public safety.
