Chamber hands out honors
The Pontiac Area Chamber of Commerce honored business people and students during its annual banquet Thursday night at the Pontiac Elks.
Mark Masching received the Business Person of the Year award. During the introduction, last year’s winner Marlon Eilts noted Masching’s commitment to the community which is reflected in his company.
“The decision each year keeps getting harder and harder due to the pool of candidates,” Eilts said.
Masching thanked his family and co-workers for their support.
“Everyone works together to keep the business going strong.”
The Bill Edwards Agri-Business Person of the Year award was given to Tim Kelly of Kelly-Sauder-Rupiper Equipment. Kelly started with Gardner’s Sales and Service 39 years ago and eventually moved to management.
“I am very humbled,” Kelly said. “The city of Pontiac is an awesome place to own a business and raise a family.”
The following outgoing chamber board members were recognized: Paul Brown, Dan Gschwendtner, Julie Johnson and Ron Minnaert. Outgoing board chair Nicole Blaetz was also honored and current chair Joe Diaz gave the address to membership.
Students receiving awards included: Sarah Albrecht, India Guerrero, Emma Jacobs, Kevin Kuska, Olivia Muir, Abigayle Orndorff, Caitlyn Ricketts, Lucas Roe, Tyrah Sexton, Henry Woodburn, Mason Christianson, Ava Nollen, Samuel Fogarty, Lydia Grampp, Grace Mund, Callie Dalton, Anna Stevenson, Ali Barton and Daniela Frauli.
