Bond at $1 million for Whitmer

Bond has been set at a million dollars for a 23-year-old man charged with two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse in McLean County.

The McLean County State’s Attorney’s office reports Andrew Whitmer initially began contacting a female victim, who was 15 at the time, through Facebook. Officials say Whitmer engaged in sex acts with the victim at least twice between Nov. 23 and Dec. 31. Whitmer also allegedly sent nude photos to the victim and requested the same from her.

“The victim also reported that the defendant told her to not tell anyone and made a threat to harm her family,” McLean County State’s Attorney Jason Chambers said in a statement.

Whitmer has a prior conviction in McLean County for residential burglary and violating an order of protection. That was an additional factor in the requested bond amount, according to Chambers. The counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse are class two felonies which may be eligible for extended term sentences.
