Angel predicts wet spring

CHAMPAIGN – There is an increased chance of below normal temperatures for much of the state except far southern Illinois from February through April.

State Climatologist Jim Angel says there is also a higher likelihood of above normal precipitation across Illinois and the Great Lakes region.

“In some respects, the wetter conditions could help alleviate the precipitation deficits we’ve been racking up in the fall and winter,” Angel explained.

The official weather outlook for May through July in Illinois has no real news for Illinois but models do suggest a warmer than normal summer and dry July. La Nina conditions will likely persist through the rest of winter before neutral conditions occur by summer. This means we are between La Nina and El Nino conditions.
